The next prime minister of the UK is Rishi Sunak, but where did he reside before 10 Downing Street? We look into his property holdings
Following a contest to succeed Liz Truss, the outgoing prime minister of the UK who announced her resignation on Thursday, October 20th, Rishi Sunak has been elected.
The new leader of the Conservative Party served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. He is a member of parliament for Richmond in the county of North Yorkshire in northern England. He was named the party’s new leader on Monday, October 24. He will formally assume the role of prime minister after meeting the king, which means he will shortly move into 10 Downing Street in London, one of the finest mansions in the world and possibly the most recognisable building in the UK.
The 42-year-old lawmaker, however, is not new to the renowned Westminster Boulevard or to residing in the centre of London. Here, we look at his enormous collection of properties.
With his wife, Akshata Murthy, and their two daughters, Rishi Sunak presently resides in a $7.4 million (£6.6 million) mews mansion in Kensington. According to the British tabloid the Daily Express (opens in new tab), the four-story West London home’s four bathrooms and two reception rooms give the family more space than they need.
The Kensington Mews has access to a city garden that provides some seclusion in the capital in addition to the house’s interior. To be near to former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resided in the larger apartment over 11 Downing Street, the ex-Chancellor previously resided in an apartment above the UK Prime Minister’s official central London house at 10 Downing Street (above). According to reports, Rishi Sunak painted the condo on his own dime before relocating to his current residence.
Rishi Sunak apparently owns a second property on Old Brompton Road in the Chelsea district in addition to his primary residence. This place is referred to as a “vacation home” for visiting family members.
Rishi Sunak and his family also own Kirby Sigston Manor in Kirby Sigston, North Yorkshire, which is located more than 230 miles north of London. In Richmond, close to York, this settlement is part of the Prime Minister’s electoral district.
According to reports, this Georgian mansion is situated on a 522,720 square foot (12 acre) estate with a sizable swimming pool that the family may use when visiting northern England. The house is also close to the picturesque, wildlife-filled Cod Beck River and the surrounding moorland.
On the west coast of the US, where the family has a penthouse residence in Santa Monica, California, Rishi Sunak’s property holdings extend beyond the UK. The pair apparently resided in California after being hitched in Bangalore in 2009 before making real estate investments in the UK.
Rishi Sunak, however, will now stay at least part-time in Downing Street and, of course, at Chequers, the British Prime Minister’s official country estate (below).
